Tips for Getting College Credit for Kalu Yala

  • Set up a meeting with your academic advisor or someone in the study abroad department at your school. They will be the best source of information on your university's policies concerning study abroad programs and receiving credit abroad.
  • Before your meeting, prepare a list of questions you'd like to ask– such as what paperwork you'll need and any deadlines for application submission.
  • Make sure to bring your desired program's syllabus to the meeting with your academic advisor and/or study abroad department. (If you don't have one yet, email us for an updated copy.) It's a good idea to have an explanation of how your chosen program fits into your academic studies, as well as a personal explanation of why you're drawn to this particular opportunity.
  • According to our alumni, it really helps to have a faculty member who is willing to speak on behalf of the program's legitimacy (especially if their field is related to your program at Kalu Yala.) So if you have a good relationship with any of your professors, print out your program syllabus and start knocking on doors!
  • If your professors, academic advisors, or study abroad office would like to learn more about the program, they're more than welcome to contact us. We have a great track record of relationships with universities and professors and are always happy to add another to the list!
  • Your professor might also be interested in learning about our annual free Professor Appreciation Week, when they're welcome to join us at Kalu Yala to learn more about our program and get involved.
